Regarding
the toll smoking has on a particular individual, currently at the time more
than twenty-four various smoking related diseases have been recognized. These
most notably consist of cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease, and ten
varying shapes of cancer. The fact which remains to date and is a growing
concern is that smokers underestimate the extent to which smoking is hazardous

Industry, one of the many differing points of views is that despite the growing
health concerns, it would be unfair not to acknowledge the fact that this
particular industry is an essential component of the world and U.S economy.
Farmers, salesmen and Tobacco Control representatives all earn a great deal due
to the existence of this industry. It is alone responsible for providing
thousands of jobs in the smoking as well as the anti-smoking industry. To place
it in a nutshell; many livelihoods depend on the industry and the fight against
it.
However,
the industry has faced many lows, most notable of which is when the U.S
government successfully sued the industry for claims that tobacco causes
cancer, the participants of the industry had knowledge of this fact and were
held responsible for the untimely demise of countless citizens all over the
country and incurred heavy monetary losses in the form of damages to the
affected parties. Due to the nature of the product the lawsuits are not
entitled to end anytime soon and may probably be continually recurring for
times to come. Since the Tobacco Industry had been litigated and will remain in
that scenario, their settlement in America is in the form of heavy taxation
they will continually have to pay on their profits. However, the industry is
vary of this and have acted upon this reality by a promising long-term profit
producing portfolio.
Another
factor in the increased demand amongst the youth for tobacco consumption is a
philosophical perspective. This is in the form of the fact that smoking tobacco
in the form of cigars as well as cigarettes represents an image of dominance as
well as power. This in the aspirational young mind whose limits are endless in
his own accord is quite appealing. Perceptions of control over a young mind is
what drives it towards his or her demise, this is historically true.
Philosophers like Sigmund Freud said regarding cigars, “Sometimes a cigar is only a cigar”. The above does not apply only
to the youth, per se, it greatly focuses on the elderly figures in society as
well. For example a self-made man or woman greatly relies on symbols such as
cigarettes and cigars to signify his or her successful achievements over the
course of time which he or she has spent gaining for the results of their hard
work and efforts respectively. Within these symbols is hidden the powerful
portrayal of one within his or her mind and wishes to express it.
Whether
it be the perceptions of organization’s which garner negative sentiments
regarding the tobacco industry, philosophical perspectives or materialistic
incentives, the fact which remains is
tobacco induced cigarettes or cigars still earn a ridiculously
outstanding amounts of money. It still remains to be seen if the steps W.H.O
has initiated in the fight against the industry will come to life or not. It
does however, raise questions over the long term stability of the industry,
but, for now Tobacco Industry is one of the major players in the world economy.
