Being an absolute foodie I anticipate the meals once
I get onboard, and I bet most of you do the same. Be it a short flight or a
fairly long one, food is kind of important to get over the jetlag but now American Airlines stock has
joined hands with other budget airlines that do not offer food. So all American
Airlines passengers out there, if you are on a short flight and you decide to
get on board empty stomach with this hope that the courteous staff would be
anticipating to feed you then dreams might just shatter now.
From September onwards the company has decided to
cut short on meals for flights that are lesser than 2 hours and 45 minutes.
This rule will not be applied to the economy class but passengers opting for
first and business class would also travel with growling stomachs.
It is quite ironic that the time durations have been
kept fairly long. With nothing to do while on board munching actually helps.
The issue that would arouse through this decision is customer satisfaction. A
lot of us already pay huge amounts to travel and nobody would really want to
pay more if they have a sudden hunger emergency.
Although the company has decided to serve proper
meals for longer duration flights but what about the ones that just have travel
few miles apart? It is no surprise that the ratings for the six top ranked
airlines are slacking year over year. The primary reason is customer
satisfaction. JetBlue has been always a choice of American travelers for the
service it offer and hence has maintained its position as the top airline since
consecutive three years.
The transformation from serving meals to not serving
has been preplanned. The reason behind this is that American Airline seeks to
merge with US Airways. They wish to adopt the consistent policies.
The company will continue to serve snacks such as
cookies, pretzels, chips, beverages etc. on the short flights. On the other
hand economy class passengers need to buy proper meals on flights that are
long.
The idea of consistent experience is quite different
of regular passengers and the spokesman of the airline, Casey Norton. She says,
"We have to make sure our customers have a consistent experience no matter
what airline they choose,"
Segmentation is being done which is quite ironic as
on some popular flights meals would be served.
